Pioneer Wilderness Adventures

Description :    Since 1942 MPC has made the difference to thousands of young people. Fun is the starting point; there are lots of activities, and the friendships last. Pictures can show some of the natural beauty and the facilities, but what really brings people back year after year is the warmth, and the relationships, and the challenge to grow spiritually and physically, mentally and socially.

Pioneer Saskatchewan Camps is offering its 23rd summer of quality camping at Camp Oshkidee and as in years past, I invite you to consider Pioneer for your camper(s) this summer.

We are a part of the Canadian camping movement of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. Our first camp began in Ontario in 1929. We have a rich heritage of striving for excellence in all our camps across Canada.

Pioneer Saskatchewan Camps is accredited by the Saskatchewan Camping Association and is a member of Christian Camping International.

As a parent, you will want to know that our camp staff are carefully selected. We seek volunteers who are genuinely interested in young people, who have gifts they can share and who are positive Christian role models. They are at least 18 years of age, and many of them are adults who take vacation time to be involved at camp.

Pioneer Saskatchewan Camps is a Christian camp. We take time daily to introduce campers to the truths found in the Bible. We offer your child/teen an opportunity to be involved in many life-changing experiences. We believe in developing the whole person.

Pioneer's location in Shoal Lake is a special privilege from before the lake had road access. You see, this is the source of pristine water for Winnipeg and new development is not allowed. Thus we have access to dozens of wilderness islands to explore. Part of the Lake of the Woods system, Shoal Lake is rich in history. This is the place of the voyageur routes of the fur traders, and of the gold rush that might have rivalled the fame of the Klondike rush except that cameras were still primitive. Shoal Lake itself had 22 mines of the almost two hundred in the area, several of which are favourite visiting sites for our canoe trips. Stately white pines from these islands became the railway ties that spanned the West. Our two sites are dominated by old cedars and pines that escaped the lumber jacks. Although secluded we are connected to many waterways and our older campers can go on extended trips in the area. Or they might go farther, finding rivers into Lake Superior or Lake Winnipeg.

Our main site is on MacKinnon Island, 300 acres of woods with beaver, deer and other animals. From here we serve our smaller site on Cash Island. Both islands have large sheltered bays with beaches that permit us to hold waterfront activities and fun in safety in all weathers. Or see loons, herons, and grebes fishing.
