B-Fast’s charter operations was established on South Shore in the spring of 1989, running offshore cod fishing trips to Stellwagen Bank on the JANET B, a new, diesel-powered 31 foot J.C. Sportfisherman. Marketing at four regional sportsmen’s shows commenced in the winter of 1990. At the time, codfish stocks were on the decline due to commercial exploitation and the economy was in the throws of a recession. Fortunately, fisheries management and conservation measures and a vibrant economy over the past decade have led to improvement in fish stocks and growth in the recreational charter fishing industry in Massachusetts

To cope with the demand, B-Fast’s offshore operations have grown significantly from one charter vessel departing from Green Harbor in Marshfield to a fleet of as many as ten vessels working cooperatively fishing cod on Stellwagen. Our marketing has also expanded to include nine regional Sportsmen’s show venues in the Northeast during the winter months.

In the spring of 1995, B-Fast initiated inshore fly fishing and light-tackle charters for striped bass and bluefish in Boston Harbor and on the South Shore. Once again conservation measures fostered a restoration of the striped bass to historical numbers and saltwater fly-fishing was expanding along the Eastcoast. In the spring of 1996, our fly-fishing operation was endorsed by the Orvis Company of Manchester Vermont. In the Winter of 1997, our operation was endorsed by OMC/Hydra-Sports with inclusion in the Hydra-Sports Fishing Team Program. A new 20 ft. Hydra-Sports Ocean Fly-Fishing skiff was put into service and based in Cohasset Harbor in the spring of 1997. Presently, our inshore charters depart from Cohasset Harbor, Back River in Weymouth and from Boston’s Rowe’s Wharf with up to four 20 ft. casting platforms working in the Harbor and along the coast of the South Shore.
